Form of almsgiving obligatory in Islam

Zakat (or Zakāh) is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. Zakat is the Arabic word for "giving to charity" or "giving to the needy". Zakat is a form of almsgiving, often collected by the Muslim Ummah.
