Yemeni civil war (2014–present)

Armed conflict in the Middle East

The Yemeni civil war (Arabic: الحرب الأهلية اليمنية, romanized: al-ḥarb al-ʾahlīyah al-yamanīyah) is an ongoing multilateral civil war that began in late 2014 mainly between the Rashad al-Alimi-led Presidential Leadership Council and the Mahdi al-Mashat-led Supreme Political Council, along with their respective supporters and allies. Both sides claim to constitute the official government of Yemen while the Presidential Leadership Council is recognized by the United Nations as the official government. The civil war began in September 2014 when Houthi forces took over the capital city Sanaa, which was followed by a rapid Houthi takeover of the government.
