International non-governmental environmental organization

WWF is a Swiss-based international non-governmental organization that works in the field of wilderness preservation and the reduction of human impact on the environment. It was founded in 1961 as the World Wildlife Fund. The official name of the Swiss umbrella organization and in some countries is World Wide Fund for Nature following a renaming (retaining the abbreviation WWF), while World Wildlife Fund remains the official name in other countries, including Canada and the United States.
