Urbanization

Process of population movement to cities

Urbanization

Urbanization (or urbanisation in British English) is the process by which human settlements are formed and become larger as more people live, recreate and work in cities and towns. It describes the population shift from rural to urban areas, the corresponding decrease in the proportion of people living in rural areas, and the ways in which societies and culture adapt to this change. Rather than strictly referring to the absolute number of people living in urban environments, Urbanization refers to the proportion of the total national population living in areas classified as urban.“It is predicted that by 2050, about 77% of the developing world and 96% of the developed world will be urbanized.”.
