Summer
Hottest of the four temperate seasons
Summer or summertime is the hottest and brightest of the four temperate seasons, occurring after spring and before autumn. Starting on (or around) the summer solstice, daylight hours are the longest and darkness hours are the shortest, with day length decreasing as the season progresses after the solstice. In the Northern Hemisphere, summer is usually defined as starting on June 21 or 22, and ending on September 22 or 23; and in the Southern Hemisphere, as the period between December 22 or 23 and March 20 or 21.
