Santa Catarina (English: SAN-tə KAT-ə-REE-nə, Brazilian Portuguese: [ˈsɐ̃tɐ kataˈɾinɐ]) is one of the 27 federative units of Brazil. It is located in the centre of the country's Southern region. It is bordered to the north by the state of Paraná, to the south by the state of Rio Grande do Sul, to the east by the Atlantic Ocean, and to the west by the Argentine province of Misiones.
