Nuremberg ( NURE-əm-burg; German: Nürnberg [ˈnʏʁnbɛʁk] ; Mainfränkisch: Nämberch [ˈnɛmbɛrç]) is the second-largest city in the German state of Bavaria and the largest city in the cultural region of Franconia. Its 546,397 (2024) inhabitants make it the 13th-largest city in Germany. Situated on the Pegnitz, the city forms a continuous conurbation with the neighbouring cities of Fürth, Erlangen and Schwabach, with the built-up area comprising around 1.4 million inhabitants, while the larger Nuremberg Metropolitan Region has a population of approximately 3.6 million.
