Neonatology
Medical care of newborns, especially the ill or premature
Neonatology (also neonatal medicine) is a subspecialty of pediatrics concerned with the care, development, and diseases of newborn infants, particularly those born prematurely or in need of critical care. Neonatologists are medical doctors who specialize in the care of newborns, often working in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). Neonatal care often involves a multidisciplinary team to provide intensive monitoring, respiratory and nutritional support, neonatal resuscitation and transport, and support for families facing complex medical decisions.
