Mafikeng

Capital city of the North-West Province, South Africa

Mafikeng (Tswana for "Place of Rocks"), officially known as Mahikeng and alternatively known as Mafeking (US also), is the capital city of the North West province of South Africa. It was also the capital of the Bechuanaland Protectorate (modern Botswana) until 1965, despite being located outside the protectorate. Close to South Africa's border with Botswana, Mafikeng is 1,400 km (870 mi) northeast of Cape Town and 260 km (160 mi) west of Johannesburg.
