Lucifer
Latin word for Venus, associated with several mythological figures
Lucifer is the Latin name for the planet Venus, associated with the morning star. In Christian mythology, the name Lucifer has been associated with the Devil and the fallen angel mentioned in Revelation 12; and thus is conceived as a representation of the deadly sin of pride for having attempted to usurp God, after which he was banished to Earth. The concept of a heavenly entity named after Venus attempting to overthrow the highest deity parallels ʿAṯtar's attempt to replace Baal on his throne in Canaanite religion, a story which is alluded to in the Book of Isaiah and thus transferred to Christian beliefs.
