Huronian glaciation
Severe glaciation during the Paleoproterozoic era
The Huronian glaciation (or Makganyene glaciation) was a period when at least three ice ages occurred during the deposition of the Huronian Supergroup. Deposition of this largely sedimentary succession extended from around 2.4 to 2.1 billion years ago, during the Siderian and Rhyacian periods of the Paleoproterozoic era. Evidence for glaciation is mainly based on the recognition of diamictite that is interpreted to be of glacial origin.
