Study of the biological, psychological, and social aspects of aging

Gerontology is the science of old age and the aging process. It encompasses the understanding, prevention, rehabilitation, diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of diseases, disorders, and conditions associated with the changes that occur in humans throughout their entire lifespan, with particular emphasis on longevity. Gerontologists work in interdisciplinary care alongside geriatricians, nurses, physiotherapists, nutritionists, dentists, psychologists, patients, families, and other healthcare team members, all aimed at improving quality of life and promoting healthy aging.
