Endangered species
Species of some organisms facing a very high risk of extinction
An endangered species is a species having a very high risk of extinction in the near future, either worldwide or in a particular region. Species become endangered due mainly to habitat depletion and loss of genetic variation. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List classifies the global conservation status of many species, and various other agencies assess the status of species within particular areas.
