Culture of Germany

The culture of Germany has been shaped by its central position in Europe and a history spanning over a millennium. Known for significant contributions to art, music, philosophy, religion, science and technology, German culture is diverse and influential. Germany remained in a state of Kleinstaaterei (lit. 'small-state-ery') for long periods, leading to a wide variety of regional customs and traditions.
