Celtic Christianity

Christianity in the Celtic language–speaking world during the early Middle Ages

Celtic Christianity

Celtic Christianity is a term previously used by historians for a form of Christianity which was held to have been common across the Celtic-speaking world during the Early Middle Ages. The term is deprecated by most late twentieth and twenty-first century historians as it wrongly implies a unified and identifiable entity separate from that of mainstream Western Christendom. For this reason, Brown (2003) notes a preference for the term Insular Christianity.
