Catholic social teaching
Social doctrine of the Catholic Church
Catholic social teaching (CST) is an area of Catholic doctrine which is concerned with human dignity and the common good in society. While no official canon of principles or documents exists, it addresses oppression, the communitarian role of the state, subsidiarity, social organization, social justice, and wealth distribution. The foundation for this body of thought was laid by Pope Leo XIII in his 1891 encyclical letter, Rerum novarum, but its roots can be traced to Catholic theologians such as Thomas Aquinas and Augustine of Hippo.
